Innovation Myths

Don’t let these common myths throw you off course!

1

Myth:

“Innovation” is an over-hyped word that’s really just marketing fluff.

Reality:

Ignore the word. That said, there are proven practices to create new ways of doing things that have a positive change to your business.

2

Myth:

When brainstorming, we should come up with lots of crazy ideas.

Reality:

Crazy ideas can help promote new thoughts, but the goal of brainstorming is to solve a problem. We need quality AND quantity. 1 real idea is worth 100 crazy unusable ones.

3

Myth:

Innovation means leveraging technology.

Reality:

Innovation can relate to your processes, how you talk to customers, how you hire, your profit model, etc. It might use cutting edge technology…or no technology at all.

4

Myth:

Innovation is expensive.

Reality:

Innovation can scale to any budget. (Although the more you want to change the more you’ll likely need to spend.)

5

Myth:

My company can’t be innovative.

Reality:

The most important step is having a shared understanding of what’s desired and what’s feasible. The rest can be taught, coached, and practiced.
